One of the therapists describes her work in a specialist early years centre:
I work in a specialist early years centre for children with a wide range of additional needs. Most of my day is spent working with children individually to develop their communication skills. Music is a natural way to help pre-verbal children learn to communicate and the sessions provide an experience of hearing their sounds reflected back so they can begin to understand the two-way nature of communication. For some children music can provide an outlet for difficult feelings that may otherwise be expressed in challenging behaviour. During my time at the centre I have also enjoyed running joint sessions with the speech and language therapy team to help children develop their social skills and awareness of others.
